Disposal of Sphag Sorb

  • Simple recovery of activated SPHAG SORB - sweep, vacuum, squeegee, etc.
  • It can be incinerated, and on its own will not produce unwanted emission; as an energy source, it contributes 7,000 BTUs per pound during incineration (excluding hydrocarbons)
  • It has been able to remain in the environment under limited circumstances as a natural organic aid; due to its ability to remain non-leaching as it encap- sulates hydrocarbons
  • Can be used to solidify liquid wastes for safe transport of hazardous materials, including PCBs
  • Can serve as fill-in around overpack drums, eliminating serious leaks or environmental damage
  • Has passed the Toxicity Characteristics Leaching Procedure (TCLP) Test with oil and is compatible with land filling when regulations permit
  • Passes the Abalone Larval Development Short-Term Toxicity Test for Oil Spill Cleanup Agents (California) Protocol CSWRCB 1990.
