Disposal of Sphag Sorb
- Simple recovery of activated SPHAG SORB - sweep, vacuum,
squeegee, etc.
- It can be incinerated, and on its own will not produce
unwanted emission; as an energy source, it contributes 7,000 BTUs
per pound during incineration (excluding hydrocarbons)
- It has been able to remain in the environment under limited
circumstances as a natural organic aid; due to its ability to
remain non-leaching as it encap- sulates hydrocarbons
- Can be used to solidify liquid wastes for safe transport of
hazardous materials, including PCBs
- Can serve as fill-in around overpack drums, eliminating
serious leaks or environmental damage
- Has passed the Toxicity Characteristics Leaching Procedure
(TCLP) Test with oil and is compatible with land filling when
regulations permit
- Passes the Abalone Larval Development Short-Term Toxicity Test
for Oil Spill Cleanup Agents (California) Protocol CSWRCB
